Summer Workshop 2026

June 1 to 6, 2026
Western University

CEG, London is thrilled to announce two incredible artists for Summer Workshop 2026.

  1. Alice Vander Vennen, June 1 to 3, 2026; 9:30am to 4:30pm
  2. Susan Purney Mark, June 4 to 6, 2026; 9:30am to 4:30pm

Each will teach a three-day workshop at the John Labatt Visual Arts Building on the campus of Western University.

Alice Vander Vennen of Cobourg, Ontario will teach "Mixed Media Textile Assemblage". Create an evocative and exciting art piece that combines the work of our hands with those of Mother Nature's. Juxtapose fibre art with natural materials to create a framed, stitched, three-dimensional textile assemblage. Allow the rich textures, brilliant colours and nuanced lines of stitched textiles to interact with the mysterious beauty of the imprinted stone, the gentle branch or a fragile leaf. Incorporate glowing copper and wire, fabric transfers of precious photos, or tell a story with the remnants of unfinished handwork or an heirloom quilt. Work with a variety of textiles, including remnants of your own stitched, embroidered and embellished work, new fabrics, and found pieces of textiles that catch your eye.

In this course participants will juxtapose, combine, create and complete a composition that they will then mount in a shadow box frame. Ideally everyone leaves the workshop with two art pieces beautifully matted and presented in a shadow box frame.

Please refer to Alice Vander Vennen's complete description and supply list.

Susan Purney Mark, Pender Island, British Columbia, will lead us in a workshop called "Cloth to Codex" - creating book art with movement and texture. Of Cloth to Codex Artist Books, Purney Mark says: "Everything in Cloth to Codex happens by hand…No computers or quick fixes—just time, thought, and deliberate action shaping each book into something you can touch, feel, and experience beyond words on a page."

Please refer to Susan Purney Mark's complete description and supply list.
